O - Be Open to new ideas and different ways to do things. You learn by doing and figuring things out for yourself. You do this by recognizing patterns and trying different strategies, not me talking. Aleks and the mastery learning approach to math is new and may be intimidating. But with patience, and persistence your work will generate a deep and satisfying understanding of math.
Take Ownership of your learning. Math builds on itself so demand understanding of each concept. You will be presented the topics in a way that will lead you to the next. Be sure to complete your home-Aleks every night.
L - Listen to me and others. Show you are listening by putting eyes on the talker, feet on the ground and hands down.
Learn – I will do my best to explain math topics but only you can choose to learn it.
E - Engage in class by arriving on time, then putting all backpacks and purses under your seat. Get out your pencil and notebook and start working on the warm up or Aleks. Come to class with questions and examples written out in your math notebook from your daily home-Aleks.
Show Effort by writing out all the steps for each problem and completing, to the best of your ability, each topic. When you are stuck use all of your resources to work through a problem.
Grading
